EuroCham Delegation lead by Jens Ruebbert met with Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue

On 29 August 2017, the EuroCham Delegation led by Chairman Jens Ruebbert  met with Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue to discuss EuroCham’s preparations for Brussels trip and common goal to promote and facilitate the early ratification and implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement.

Mr. Ruebert expressed his appreciation to the Vietnamese Government and authorities for efforts in policy improvements and continuous support for EuroCham’s activities.  He also reported to the Deputy Prime Minister with EuroCham’s recent actions taken to promote and raise awareness of the EVFTA. The Chamber has been proactively working with many key partners such as EU Delegation to Vietnam, Ministry of Industry and Trade, (Viettrade and MUTRAP), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, domestic associations (VCCI, Vietnam Business Forum) and other institutions. In his speech, Mr. Ruebbert mentioned the significant impacts of EVFTA in EU-Vietnam relations and trade and the urge of ratification of EVFTA in a timely manner in order to boost not only trade and investment but also brings a new attitude towards business. He also presented the EuroCham Greenbook 1st Edition which aims to promote green growth potentials and sustainable business development and investment opportunities in Vietnam.

We promote European sustainable investment and trade through good corporate citizenship, collaboration and engagement with the Vietnamese society. We support the European businesses community to connect with the Vietnamese Government and authorities to advocate for and to improve the business environment. We thereby contribute to Vietnam’s sustainable development and growth” ,said Mr. Ruebbert.

 Mr. Hue praised EuroCham’s efforts in advocating investment and trade collaboration between Viet Nam and the European Union (EU). The Deputy PM highly appreciates the effectiveness of EuroCham’s policy recommendations, contributing to the enhancing business competitiveness and improving legal framework. These are in line with the Vietnamese Government’s recent Resolutions 19, 35 to enhance the business environment and national competitiveness. The Chamber’s Whitebook is well-known to him and he looks forward to reading Eurocham’s Greenbook. Mr. Hue also expressed his delight seeing EuroCham’s positive attitude towards Viet Nam’s business environment and suggested that the chamber should regularly update the Vietnamese policy makers with the insight and experience of European firms operating in Viet Nam to inform and alert for necessary policy adjustments. The EU and Vietnam should carefully revise legal framework before ratifying the EVFTA, and the voice of EuroCham and other European firms in Viet Nam would carry even more weight in helping Viet Nam towards reaching the goal. 
 “EuroCham is regarded as a key factor enhancing cooperation and investment between the EU and Viet Nam”, said Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue. He also hailed contributions of the EuroCham to Viet Nam’s successful organization of the Mid-Term Viet Nam Business Forum in 2017 and the release of the Whitebook on Viet Nam trade and investment. (VGP News)

The Vietnamese government plans to instruct the corresponding departments to cut customs inspections procedures by half, as well as publicise the procedures, standards and requirements for European firms as well as other foreign businesses operating in Viet Nam, said Hue.The Vietnamese Government will continue taking measures to reform administrative procedures, improve the business environment, reduce expenditures for enterprises, facilitate trade and protect health for domestic consumers, affirmed Deputy PM Hue.(VGP News)

Deputy Prime Minister Hue and Mr. Ruebbert discussed sectoral topics such as: Food and Agriculture, Pharmaceuticals, Wines and Spirits, etc. The Deputy Prime Minister also wished EuroCham Delegation fruitful results in Europe and re-affirmed that the Chamber can seek for his support in regards to his fields any time.
