In 2020, WeEmpowerAsia launched the UN Women Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards, the first regional awards initiative recognizing private sector action for gender equality aligned with the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), a set of 7 principles guiding businesses to become more gender-inclusive across their value chain. After receiving more than 400 applications from 17 countries across the Asia-Pacific, and celebrating national awardees in 7 countries, eighteen of the region’s top private sector champions for gender equality were awarded at the WEPs Awards Regional Ceremony on December 15, 2020.
