The Norwegian Embassy in Hanoi held a celebration of the Norwegian Constitution Day last Saturday 18 May. The cozy event took place at the National Library of Vietnam and was attended by the Norwegian community in Hanoi, international friends, Embassy’s staff, and their family members including children.
Addressing at the event, Ambassador Grete Løchen highlighted the fact that the Norwegian Constitution was adopted 17 May 1814 and is the world’s second oldest constitution that is still in use. Ambassador Løchen also expressed her happiness to celebrate her first Norwegian National Day in Vietnam together with close international friends and colleagues. She continued by describing how Norwegians celebrate the Constitution Day across the world and emphasized that children are always at the very core of the Norwegian National Day celebrations.
Norway has a special way of celebrating its National Day. A children parade is indispensable. This year, despite the heat of early summer days in Hanoi, children and adults enjoyed the parade and Norwegian traditional games in the library garden. And no 17 May celebration is complete without waffles, ice cream and sausages.
Joys, funs, laughter and, of course, lots of sweat are something that stay in the heart of the guests and hosts after the celebration event this year.
